The church of San Donato was erected in the second half of the 13th century and was established as a parish as early as 1278 when the five parishes of the walled city were established. The church maintained its original appearance until the end of the seventeenth century. The interior has a single nave vaulted with a lunetted barrel vault, with four chapels on each side. The latter house seventeenth- and eighteenth-century wooden altars, one of which, that of the Holy Cross, includes the seventeenth-century wooden Crucifix.
