In the heart of the Barbagia of Ollolai, immersed in a rugged and wild nature dominated by centuries-old oaks and holm oaks, rises the village of Ollolai. The territory of Ollolai was inhabited since the Neolithic, as shown by the excavations in the area of “S. Basilio,” more precisely in the site Sa ònca frabi à where various materials were found that testify to human presence from the Middle Neolithic to the early Iron Age.
In the area of San Basilio rises an archaeological park; it is still being researched and built. In 1412 Ollolai became a fief of the Marquis Deiana; the rivalry (disamistade) between the Arbau and the Ladu, the two most powerful families in the village, exploded into a real feud that even involved the Franciscan friars who lived in the Church of San Basilio. Legend and reality coexist on this “story.” A story supported by recent excavations that have brought to light the remains of an ancient monastery located next to the small country church of San Basilio.
