The church dedicated to the Blessed Virgin of the Rosary is the oldest church in Sarule heart of the town’s historic center. Originally dedicated to St. Nicholas of Bari, around the 12th century it was renovated and consecrated to Our Lady of the Rosary. During work in 1997 a tombstone dating back to 1286 was found. The vault of the main al-
tare depicts the crowned Virgin holding the Child, the five mysteries of the Rosary and an eagle with a crown symbolizing the Austro-Hungarian Empire, a reminder of Austrian rule. The style of the church is Latin cross, and the high altar is dedicated to the Blessed Virgin of Pompeii. The various side chapels are dedicated to Our Lady of Grace, Our Lady of Sorrows, St. Joseph and St. Nicholas. This church is home to the confraternities of the Rosary and St. Joseph.
