Cixerri Dam

The town of Uta and its territory have a history closely linked to the presence of the river named Rio Cixerri.
While this watercourse has contributed to shaping the landscape and creating the conditions for flourishing agriculture by making the soils rich and fertile, it has also posed a great danger to the town due to frequent flooding during the rainiest periods.
The first works to regulate the waters of the river date back to very ancient times, but the most important ones belong to the 20th century.
First among them is the Genna de Is Abis dam, better known as the Cixerri Dam, completed in 1992.
The main barrage, with its 26 meters in height and 1300 meters in length, is perhaps the work that has had the greatest impact in characterizing the landscape of the lower Cixerri valley.
