Deleddian Museum

Grazia Deledda’s birthplace dates back to the second half of the 19th century. The ground floor is divided into four rooms located on different levels through which it is possible to access the inner courtyards. The museum is accessed through a small building adjacent to the house purchased and renovated by ISRE. The first room introduces the visitor to the social context of Nuoro at the end of the 19th century; in the second room, the most significant stages of the writer’s life are traced. In the third room, a kitchen has been reconstructed on the basis of the autobiographical novel “Cosima” with period furniture and furnishings, while the fourth reproduces the pantry with provisions. The room on the second floor is dedicated to the Nobel Prize; on the same floor, the room once reserved for guests, named Nuoro Athens of the Sardinians, forms the sixth room. The seventh reproduces Grazia Deledda’s room, set up according to descriptions in some novels of an autobiographical nature. The ninth and tenth rooms reproduce Deledda’s life in the capital.
