Domus de Janas Necropolis of Mancosu

The domus de janas are located at the site of “Mancosu” in the territory of Tiana. Literally called “house of fairies or witches,” they are cavities entirely dug into the rock considered by archaeologists and historians to be ancient Nuragic tombs, so the entire complex is to be considered a necropolis. In fact, their shape is reminiscent of an everyday dwelling, hence the name. Some consist of only one room while others consist of several rooms, so it is presumable that they were used for multiple burials. As many as seven are found at the Mancosu site, known in Tiana by the term forreddos, precisely because their entrance recalls the opening of the ancient oven used for baking bread.
