Sassari well can be called a city of music and boast a renowned tradition related to music and bel canto, which has unfolded throughout history in the prestigious venues of the Palazzo di Città, Teatro Civico, Teatro Verdi and Sala Sassu. A city that is home to the “L. Canepa” National Conservatory and the “Marialisa de Carolis” Concert Institution. The demand for new spaces for music and theater was the idea that prompted the city administration in 1984 to build a new municipal theater in the Cappuccini neighborhood, which did not see the start of construction until 1990. Located in the space adjoining the Conservatory of Music, the structure stands in all its grandeur and offers the city a space divided into several sections with the theater proper, consisting of 1,400 seats, a wing for workshops and all those activities related to the life of a theater, a conference room and a large parking lot. On Feb. 21, 2012, the theater was opened to the public for the first time on the occasion of the visit of President of the Republic Giorgio Napolitano.
