MUT – Tuna Museum

Opened in 2016, the museum is located inside the recently restored former A.L.P.I. building that housed the Viale family’s seafood processing company.

The Tonnara Museum in Stintino tells of a time that is no more. It tells of shoals of fish following the currents of the Mediterranean, of sea crews awaiting their arrival, and of a system of nets intercepting their passage. Describes the traditional tuna fishing method practiced in the Gulf of Asinara until the last century. It treats the lives of the men who caught and processed tuna with hard work and tenacity. It encapsulates the identity of an entire town, Stintino, whose history is closely linked to that of the Tonnara Saline. Perpetuates, today, the memory of men and the sea.
