The hypogeic necropolis of Anghelu Ruju (3500-1800 BC) consists of 38 tombs dug into a platform of limestone sandstone. The sacred character of the site is underscored by the presence of decorations visible inside the burial cells including cup-marks, false doors, protomes and taurine horns, emblems of deep religious sentiment. The prevalent burial practice is inhumation.
