The museum, which opened in 2003, is housed in the grounds of the mansion built by the Boyl family in the late 1600s.
In the early 1900s the entire complex was purchased by Notary Francesco Locci (1880-1966), namesake of his nephew, the current owner of the Museum, who undertook not only the production of oil from his olive groves, but also olive milling for third parties.
In the village it was known as Su Notariu (The Notary) and hence the definition of Sa mola de su Notariu (The Notary’s Oil Mill) that remained for many years to identify the family oil mill and now gives the museum its name.
