Built between 1872 and 1874 with the aim of creating a large infrastructure aimed at solving the problem of the eduction of the groundwater present in the Iglesiente metalliferous basin, which prevented the development of deep excavation and mineral extraction operations.
The external structures of the Sella Shaft, of particular architectural merit, which had housed the eduction pumps and steam engines with their boilers, are permanently designated to house the mine’s technological services (machine shop, forge and carpentry).
