It is the largest ethnographic museum in Sardinia. The complex of buildings that houses it, built between the 1950s and 1960s, designed by Architect A.S. Moss, looks like an imaginary Sardinian village. The collections include about 8,000 artifacts, mainly clothing, jewelry, textile and wooden artifacts, weapons, masks, breads, instruments of folk music, and domestic and working tools and utensils of traditional Sardinia. The museum is currently undergoing a major restoration, redevelopment and expansion project. However, it has remained open in the parts not affected by the intervention.The current tour runs through three areas: a large hall that houses most of the types of collections, divided into sections, a small room dedicated to musical instruments and a section devoted to the Barbagia carnival.
