Built between 1835 and 1838 on the initiative of 21 noble families from Bitonto, the theater was designed by architect Antonio Niccolini. The hall is horseshoe-shaped with three tiers of boxes and a gallery. After a long period of closure and a collapse in 1972, it was restored and reopened in 2005, becoming the home of the Traetta Opera Festival and the heart of the city’s cultural life.
