As has become a tradition, the Cagliari Conservatory of Music is once again renewing its musical offerings for Monumenti Aperti this year: eight important and evocative venues in the City will host twelve chamber concerts, two presentations of restored ancient organs and one of traditional music; a commitment shared by 86 students and 22 preparatory teachers.
This offering, rather than outlining thematic paths, is intended as a series of open windows on our educational landscape, which again finds definition and meaning in the actual act of public display, the concert, ideally closing the circle of so many paths of study.
At those windows one will hear sounds of different instruments harmonized in works from Baroque to contemporary in four appointments at the Crypt of St. Dominic, sounds of ancient organs in the Cathedral and in the Churches of St. Anthony Abbot and Holy Sepulchre. The voices of precious lieder will arrive from the 18th-century Hall of the University Library, of romantic and modern choirs from Palazzo Siotto. Skillful rhythmic geometries will resound in the Council Chamber of the Regional Council of Sardinia, and at the Ethnographic Museum traditional Sardinian sounds will also tell the tale of modernity.
At the mere thought of making and listening to music together in such special spaces, genuinely illustrated by very young students from so many other Schools, it is not difficult to discern the light that illuminates the essence of this event, the relationship between man/art/environment in terms of contemplation, expression, listening, relationship.
Doesn’t the world need beauty, understood in the deepest and most transversal sense of the term? We, in our own small way, as Music teachers are committed to living it with Sound, trying to share it as much as possible with the students and all the people present at our concerts.
Good experience!
