The Nurra Airport, built in 1937 and opened in 1938, features the typical “Balbo-type” architecture of the time. Remained operational during the war, it was also undermined by the German army. At that time, French pilot-writer Antoine De Saint-Exupéry was assigned to the Allied Forces squadron stationed at the airport, and today a transit hall is dedicated to him.
