The village of Bitti takes its name from the Sardinian sa bita (fawn). According to one legend, in fact, a fawn was killed by a hunter while drinking at a spring, the present-day Fontana de Su Cantaru within the village. The fact is also recalled in a popular poem by an unknown author. The fountain of Su Cantaru, the heart of the village, in neoclassical style, is located a short distance from Piazza Giorgio Asproni and the main street Corso Vittorio Veneto.
