The monument was erected inside the public gar- dens located in Vittorio Emanuele street to commemorate one of its most illustrious citizens: Giuseppe Manno. Born in Alghero on March 17, 1786, he was the protagonist of a long and prestigious political activity: First official of the Secretariat of State, Private Secretary of Carlo Felice, Councilor of the Crown and of the Supreme Council of Sardinia, President of the Senate of the Kingdom of Italy of the Supreme Court of Cassation. Created by the then young sculptor Pietro Canonica, the statue was officially placed on July 22nd 1894
